Trends in DU admissions in the post-CUET era

Compared to earlier years, the 2025 Delhi University admissions cycle reflects both continuity in key trends and some significant changes. B.Com and B.Com (Hons) continue to lead in applicant preferences, consistent with the trends observed in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

In 2022, nine out of the ten most popular college-programme combinations were in commerce, and in 2023, B.Com once again emerged as the most sought-after course, attracting over 72,000 applicants. The demand for BA (Hons) English and Political Science has also remained stable over the years. Institutions such as Kirori Mal, Hindu, Hansraj, and SRCC have consistently drawn the highest number of applicants. In 2025, this trend persists, with SRCC, Hindu, Hansraj, and St. Stephen’s being among the most favored colleges by candidates.

The total number of applicants has stayed above 2.4 lakh since 2023; in 2025, 2.39 lakh candidates submitted their preferences, slightly lower than the 2.45 lakh recorded in the previous two years. The implementation of simulated ranks and a modification window has been a regular feature since 2022, and the system has largely remained the same, although the number of college-programme combinations listed by candidates has significantly increased this year, with over 1.68 crore preferences submitted.
