APAAR ID: With a single digital identification, students can transition between educational institutions, apply for courses, submit necessary documents for admissions or employment, and monitor their credits without the need for multiple paper certificates.
The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, known as APAAR, has been established as a primary digital ID for students throughout India. Launched under the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ initiative and in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this system aims to enhance record-keeping and facilitate academic mobility.
What Is APAAR?
APAAR is a permanent academic identification system designed for every student, spanning from primary education to higher education. This ID functions as a consolidated digital repository where all academic credentials, including marksheets, scorecards, grade sheets, certificates, degrees, and co-curricular achievements, are securely stored.
What APAAR Aims To Do
The initiative seeks to simplify a student’s academic experience by ensuring that their records are accessible, verified, and transferable at every stage. With a single digital ID, students can transition between schools, apply for courses, submit documents for admissions or employment, and track their credits without depending on multiple paper certificates.
What Does APAAR Seek To:
- Facilitate seamless student mobility across various institutions.
- Promote flexible learning pathways and credit transfers.
- Validate and acknowledge prior learning.
- Ensure transparency in academic progress and minimize duplication or fraudulent records.
- Aggregate co-curricular achievements for comprehensive student profiles.
Since all credentials are stored digitally, students are not required to present physical certificates in numerous processes, making it advantageous for school transfers, entrance examinations, admissions, job applications, and skill development programs.
Why Students Should Have An APAAR ID
Each APAAR ID is a distinct 12-digit identifier that serves as a permanent digital identity. It enables students to consolidate, manage, and access all academic credits in a single location. This ID minimizes reliance on paper documentation and guarantees that educational accomplishments are secure and readily available when needed.
How Students Can Get Their APAAR ID
- Verification: Students must visit the school to confirm their demographic information.
- Parental Consent: This is necessary for minors.
- Authentication: The school will authenticate the student’s identity.
- ID Creation: Following verification, the APAAR ID is created and added to the student’s DigiLocker account.
- Prerequisites for Generating an APAAR ID
- Prior to creation, the following criteria must be fulfilled:
- The student’s name in UDISE+ records must correspond with the name on their Aadhaar.
- The student’s Permanent Education Number (PEN) is essential.
Mandatory Details Required
Schools must provide the following details while creating the ID:
The Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE) plus Unique Student Identifier (PEN), student name, date of birth, gender, mobile number, mother’s name, father’s name, name as per Aadhaar, and Aadhaar Number.
How To Check APAAR ID Status
Once generated, the APAAR ID is automatically transferred to the student’s DigiLocker account. It can be found in the ‘Issued Documents’ section as a virtual APAAR card. The status can also be verified in the UDISE+ portal under the APAAR module, where schools can access student-specific updates. Students may ask their school authority to confirm the status.
