Mercedes-Benz has provided an early preview of the forthcoming S-Class facelift in a video featuring CEO Ola Kallenius, ahead of its global launch on January 29. The preview showcases the design, interior, and cutting-edge technologies of the flagship luxury sedan, which Mercedes asserts includes “over 50 percent new or revised components” as part of its mid-cycle refresh. This comprehensive update emphasizes the brand’s dedication to maintaining the S-Class at the pinnacle of innovation and luxury.

On the exterior, the updated S-Class boasts a more sophisticated front end, characterized by a redesigned grille adorned with three-point-star chrome accents. The lighting signature has also been modernized, featuring new LED headlights and tail lights equipped with three-point-star LED guides, which contribute to a unique visual identity. Updated bumpers and new alloy wheel designs further amplify the sedan’s presence. A particularly significant revival is the classic Mercedes hood ornament, which has been missing from contemporary models since the mid-2000s. For 2026, it makes a return with illumination, along with a lit grille surround, reinforcing the S-Class’s combination of tradition and modernity.

Inside, the most notable enhancement is the introduction of the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS). Developed internally, this sophisticated software platform will manage infotainment, vehicle functions, connectivity, and over-the-air updates. By facilitating greater flexibility for future enhancements, MB.OS guarantees that the cabin remains technologically up-to-date over time. Mercedes is also anticipated to refine switchgear and steering wheel controls, with reports indicating a return to physical buttons for improved usability—a change likely to be appreciated by customers who favor tactile feedback over touch-sensitive controls.

Regarding technology, the updated S-Class will incorporate Mercedes’ adaptive Airmatic suspension, which has been further improved with a new iDamping feature. This system enables the vehicle to identify and communicate details about road irregularities to other S-Class models, allowing them to adjust their suspension settings in advance for enhanced ride comfort. This interconnected intelligence underscores Mercedes’ commitment to advancing smarter mobility solutions.

One of the most progressive announcements is that the new S-Class will be prepared for Level 4 autonomy. Kallenius has confirmed that Mercedes is actively testing this capability on public roads, indicating the brand’s determination to take the lead in autonomous driving technology.
