EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students)
The EJU is designed for international students aiming to enroll in undergraduate programs at Japanese universities. This examination assesses fundamental academic knowledge in the areas of Science, Japan and the World, and Mathematics. A total of 479 Japanese universities, representing over 60 percent of all such institutions in Japan, require EJU scores as part of their application process.
Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)
The JLPT is conducted to assess the overall proficiency in the Japanese language among non-native speakers. This examination evaluates candidates’ understanding of Japanese characters, vocabulary, and grammar, as well as their ability to apply this knowledge in communication.
There are five levels, ranging from N1 to N5, with N1 being the most advanced. The N5 and N4 levels assess the basic comprehension of students who have studied Japanese in their classes. Unified/Common University Entrance Examination
Japanese students undertake this examination when applying to national universities and certain private universities for undergraduate courses. While most universities do not mandate international students to take this exam, it may be necessary for specific programs, particularly in the medical and dental fields.
Evidence of English Proficiency
The majority of Japanese universities necessitate scores from TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, or Eiken as proof of English proficiency during the application process. It is essential for students to verify the eligibility requirements of the university prior to applying in order to adequately prepare for the examinations.
Evidence of Completion of Secondary Education
Additionally, universities may request scores from the SAT, ACT, International Baccalaureate Exams, and other specific university entrance examinations relevant to different countries or regions to verify the secondary education qualifications of applicants.
