The National Testing Agency (NTA) has planned the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2026 to take place in two sessions, January and April. These exams are intended for admissions into BE/BTech programs. Candidates who pass the Mains will qualify for admission to BE/BTech courses at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and other participating institutions. Additionally, this exam acts as a qualifying test for JEE Advanced, which serves as the entry point for IIT admissions.
The JEE (Main) – 2026 will be conducted in the following formats:
- Paper 1 (BE/BTech) will be administered in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The question paper for BE/BTech will include subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
- Paper 2A (BArch): This paper will consist of three components: Mathematics, an Aptitude test, and a Drawing test. Mathematics (Part-I) and the Aptitude Test (Part-II) will be in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, while the Drawing Test (Part-III) will be conducted in pen and paper (offline) mode, requiring completion on an A4 size drawing sheet.
- Paper 2B (BPlanning): Paper 2B will focus on the Aptitude test and Planning-based questions. Mathematics (Part-I), the Aptitude Test (Part-II), and Planning-Based Questions (Part-III) will all be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
Preparation Strategy
Aspirants preparing for the JEE Main exam should establish a strong grasp of high-weightage chapters in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). Working through topic-wise previous year questions (PYQs) will enhance their knowledge and skills in these subjects. Students should also compile concise formula and reaction sheets for quick revision.
It is essential for students to undertake two to three full-length JEE Main mock tests to evaluate their preparation. They should analyze their performance to pinpoint weak areas and enhance their time management skills.
As the JEE Main exam date approaches, students should allocate 70 percent of their study time to revision. They need to concentrate on NCERT materials and practice JEE Main PYQs from the past five years as timed papers.
In the final months leading up to the exam, students should make it a habit to take one JEE Main mock test daily. Students must revise formula sheets and take short notes.
To reduce exam anxiety, students must maintain a calm mindset and take proper sleep.
