Teachers in Punjab will now assess answer sheets utilizing the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, as stated by the Punjab Education Minister. He noted that educators will review scanned copies of answer sheets on computers rather than managing physical scripts.
This initiative follows the Central Board of Secondary Education’s introduction of a digital marking system.
“The state will implement an On-Screen Marking system, positioning Punjab among the first state boards to embrace comprehensive digital evaluation for answer sheets,” remarked Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh.
The minister further mentioned that the system was trialed during the supplementary examinations in September 2025, during which 23,000 answer sheets were evaluated digitally.
Bains elaborated on the security protocols established within this system, indicating that each page of the newly designed answer sheets will feature a unique QR code, facilitating secure scanning and digital processing. After being scanned in a secure environment, answer sheets will be uploaded to a centralized dashboard. Examiners will assess scripts online according to a structured assessment framework, with marks being automatically recorded and progress tracked in real time.
The PSEB plans to implement OSM in one subject of the matriculation examination in 2026, with intentions to gradually expand its use in future examination cycles.
